Robert lived on the streets of Pasadena, CA for forty years, the last ten with his companion dog, Junior Bear. Proud of his independence, he worked for his “squat” by providing security, trash pick-up, and light maintenance. Neighbors helped him with food and veterinary care, but as he grew older, Robert knew he needed to be inside.
This spring, thanks to Project HOUSED Pasadena
, the collaborative leading the 100,000 Homes Campaign locally, Robert moved into a small bungalow with a spacious yard for Junior Bear. At a housewarming party, he cooked up fried chicken and played host to his old neighbors who were thrilled to see him find a home.
Soon after, Robert suffered a sudden stroke and has been recovering slowly ever since. But as soon as his doctors give the go-ahead, he and Junior Bear will return to their warm new home, never again to face life on the streets.
