Skid Row Success Story in Los Angeles

We've got good news- there's one less person sleeping on the streets in Los Angeles!

Earlier this year, the Campaign hired two Americorps volunteers to hit the pavement in Skid Row. Recently, they helped Sharon Crosby move off the streets and into permanent housing after a lifetime of homelessness.

NeNe, as Crosby is affectionately called, had spent most of her life bouncing around between various temporary accommodations. She had spent the last ten years living on the streets.

Following Up with Omaha

Many readers will remember Omaha, which stunned the Campaign in October by helping one of its most vulnerable homeless residents into housing before the end of its Registry Week. After surveying Carmen and discovering that she was suffering from terminal lung cancer, local Campaign partners moved her into permanent housing the very next day.

Louisiana to Implement Vulnerability Index Statewide

This month, Louisiana will become the first Campaign community to implement the Vulnerability Index statewide.

By organizing hundreds of volunteers across the state, Randy Nichols and the Capital Area Alliance for the Homeless hope to survey homeless residents at frequent gathering points to build the Campaign's first state-level registry.

Volunteers Hit the Streets in Albuquerque

Volunteers hit the streets of Albuquerque in droves early this week as the city launched its new initiative, Albuquerque Heading Home.

Over 100 volunteers, including the Mayor and his wife, combed area "hot spots" block by block on Monday, looking for homeless residents and surveying them using the Campaign's Vulnerability Index. Monday night, more volunteers surveyed local shelters to make sure no one would be left out of the surveying process.

Spirit of Innovation on Day One of Registry Week Boot Camp

Registry Week Boot Camp kicked off today with seven communities meeting in Albuquerque to share ideas and learn how to mount a successful Registry Week. A spirit of innovation and new ideas dominated the day as representatives from Albuquerque, Santa Barbara, Seattle, West Palm Beach, Oahu, Las Vegas and Tucson met for the first time and connected around ending homelessness.

Gearing Up for Registry Week Boot Camp in Albuquerque

Registry Week Boot Camp will kick off in Albuquerque this Friday as representatives from eight communities arrive for a weekend-long training on coordinating volunteer-based Registry Week efforts in their home cities and towns.

Boot Camp communities will include Tucson, AZ; Fresno, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; West Palm Beach, FL; Waianae, HI; Las Vegas, NV; Ballard, WA; and of course, Albuquerque itself.
