In San Diego, Volunteers Take Registry Week Online

Today marks Day 2 of the San Diego Registry Week, and so far, the groundswell of enthusiasm has been amazing!

As of this morning, close to 250 volunteers have given up their early morning hours to walk the streets of San Diego, identifying and connecting with some of the city’s most vulnerable homeless.  Participants continue to report being moved and overwhelmed by the individuals they’ve met outside. Some have even taken to posting their experiences online!

Volunteers have used the 100,000 Homes Campaign Facebook page and the Twitter tag, “#100khomes,” to share their Registry Week stories with the world. These reports continue to pour in from volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, highlighting the incredible coalition of supporters that has sprung up to end homelessness in San Diego. Again and again, they express a sense of excitement at the strength and momentum our campaign is developing.

Check out a few of these inspiring samples:

  • "Yesterday was our first day and we all left changed. The homeless persons we met cracked jokes and shared their lives with us!"
  • "Team#22 hit the street once again this morning surveying the homeless. I work for Alpha Project and see the needs of the homeless every single day, together we can all make a change. The two things that have given me hope time after time is TRUTH and KINDNESS."
  • "Team #1: over 40 surveys completed this week so far... we surveyed veterans, families (some with children, some with pets), familiar faces and people from all walks of life.."
  • "The San Diego spirit is PALPABLE. Something great is happening here world. San Diego is taking control of this social issue and doing something about it! An end to homelessness in this great town is POSSIBLE!"

And the media is paying attention, too!

San Diego’s main newspaper has already published two stories about the Registry Week, and three of the city’s biggest TV stations have already shown up to get the scoop and interview volunteers. We expect even more coverage when San Diego unveils the results of its Registry Week at a major press conference this Friday!

Check back soon for more success stories from San Diego. In the meantime, be sure to check out the San Diego Facebook page, and follow our campaign on Facebook and Twitter (@100khomes) for live updates!

Keep up the amazing work, San Diego!
