San Diego Registry Week Begins!

Good Monday morning!
As you sip your coffee, nearly 200 volunteers are coming in from the streets in San Diego, where they’ve just completed Day 1 of the city’s registry week! Counts suggest that downtown San Diego is home to at least 800 homeless. Over the next week, local residents will be walking block by block to create a by-name registry to identify the most vulnerable and move them into housing.
San Diego’s registry week is an innovative collaboration between public, private and non-profit allies in the fight to end homelessness. The Downtown San Diego Partnership and Centre City Development Corporation have been instrumental in organizing the effort, along with the United Way of San Diego, the County of San Diego, the Veterans Administration, and the San Diego Housing Commission.
Be sure to check back throughout the week for news and updates from San Diego.
In the meantime, don’t miss the front-page profile of San Diego’s registry week in this Sunday’s San Diego Union-Tribune!
